How Limitless works.
Under the hood
Captured audio and context were synced to Limitless cloud infrastructure for transcription, summaries and recall. Pendant sales ended on December 5, 2025, desktop and web recording has ended, and Rewind’s screen and audio capture was turned off on December 19, 2025.

Unavailable in several regions
Since December 5, 2025 the service is unavailable in the EU, UK, Brazil, China, Israel, South Korea and Turkey, and accounts there were scheduled for deletion.

Where Tyne differs.
If you relied on Rewind or Limitless to remember your work, Tyne keeps that memory on your Mac: dictation and meeting transcription run locally, saved notes and optional screen text sit in an encrypted vault.enc, and Local Only mode keeps new requests off the network.
On Turbo, Balanced mode is the default. Loom Turbo can process relevant note, document or screen content for supported answers and reports. Local Only keeps new request content on your Mac.

Is Tyne a free alternative to Limitless?
Yes. Tyne’s Free plan includes unlimited on-device dictation with no word cap. Tyne is currently invite-only, so you need to request beta access before installing it.
Does Tyne dictation work offline?
Yes. After the speech models are installed, dictation and cleanup run on your Mac. Local Only keeps new AI request content on your Mac; live web search and Loom Turbo cloud answers require a connection.
Does Tyne upload my voice recordings?
No. Raw dictation and meeting audio are transcribed on your Mac and are not uploaded. On Turbo in Balanced mode, selected text or an image can be sent for a supported cloud answer, but raw audio and the full vault stay on your Mac.
Should I choose Limitless or Tyne?
Limitless is a strong choice if you value existing pendant owners are supported through 2026, and existing subscribers were moved to the unlimited plan at no charge. Tyne is designed for people who want system-wide Mac dictation plus encrypted local notes and a document workspace.
