Your voice stays
on your Mac.

Tyne hears what you dictate, indexes your documents, and remembers your work. Here is our complete data-flow inventory: what stays on your Mac in every mode, what Balanced mode on Turbo sends when you ask, and the minimal account metadata we store.

  • 0 KB of audio uploaded
  • Local Only & Balanced modes

Stays on your Mac in every mode

Raw audio, transcripts, cleanup, vault and the key.

Dictation, meeting audio transcription, local cleanup, and your encrypted SQLCipher vault and Atlas files live on your Mac. In Local Only mode, Tyne works in Airplane Mode with zero content egress.

Balanced mode (Turbo)

Managed zero-retention gateway

In Balanced mode on Turbo, specific Ask, Atlas, web search, or Circle to Search requests send only bounded text passages, an anonymized query, or your selected screen region through Tyne’s stateless Edge Function gateway—never raw audio or your full vault. Switch to Local Only anytime.

What we keep

Account & aggregate quota

Your email, subscription tier, and aggregate token/action counters to enforce plan limits. Payments are handled by Dodo Payments.

How it’s built

How it stays private.

Audio is transcribed on your Mac

Parakeet-TDT 0.6B (dictation) and Whisper Large Turbo + SpeakerKit (meetings) run on Apple Silicon. Raw audio is never uploaded in any mode, and temporary session audio is deleted once transcribed.

Local Only vs Balanced mode

S1-mini and Loom 3B run on a loopback-only server inside the app. In Local Only mode (Free, Plus, or toggled on Turbo), zero content leaves your Mac. In Balanced mode on Turbo, only the specific passages, anonymized search query, or selected screen region for an active request are sent to our managed gateway.

Your vault & Atlas files are encrypted

Notes, search indexes, and Atlas metadata live in vault.enc (SQLCipher AES-256), and imported Atlas files are stored as AES-GCM encrypted blobs. The 256-bit master key is generated on your Mac and kept in your Keychain.

Secrets are stripped first

Common API key and token shapes, JWTs, and private keys are redacted before a capture is written, indexed, or included in a prompt. Redaction is best-effort pattern matching, so never dictate passwords.

Meetings with explicit scope & controls

You start and stop meeting capture explicitly and choose the audio scope: Microphone only, Meeting (system) audio only, or Both. An active status indicator is shown throughout recording, no bot joins the call, and audio plus transcripts stay on your Mac.

macOS permissions

What Tyne asks for, and what it doesn’t.

  • Microphone (Required for dictation)

To hear you while you hold the dictation hotkey or record your side of a meeting.

  • Accessibility (Recommended)

To paste finished text at your cursor in other apps and read active window titles.

  • Screen & System Audio (Optional)

Not required for dictation onboarding. Needed only if you capture meeting system audio, enable local Screen Memory, or use Circle to Search.

  • Calendar and Reminders (Optional)

Requested only when you ask Tyne to draft a calendar event or reminder.

  • Full Disk Access

    Never requested.

Check for yourself

Don’t take our word for it.

Run a network monitor such as Little Snitch or LuLu while you use Tyne. In Local Only mode, you will see zero content connections—only standard licence/auth checks when signed in. In Balanced mode, network requests occur only when you trigger a cloud-assisted Ask, Atlas, web search, or Circle to Search action.

Keychain · in.tyne.desktop

Delete the app, those folders, and the Keychain item, and every local trace of Tyne on your Mac is gone. Warning: deleting the Keychain key makes `vault.enc` and encrypted Atlas blobs permanently unreadable.
