Terms & Conditions

Effective Date: August 13, 2026

Last Updated: October 23, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Tyne macOS application (the "App"), its optional online features, paid plans, and the tyne.in website (together, the "Services"). By downloading, installing, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

2. What Tyne Is

Tyne is a local-first voice, memory, and document workspace for Macs with Apple Silicon running macOS 15 or later. You speak, and Tyne transcribes your voice on your Mac and inserts the text at your cursor in the app you are using. Tyne also provides an encrypted local vault, the Atlas document workspace (for importing files, asking cited questions, and exporting Word, PDF, and Excel deliverables), meeting transcription, and optional Calendar and Reminders actions.

Speech transcription, cleanup (S1-mini and Loom 3B), and vault storage run on your device. In Local Only mode, no user content leaves your Mac. In Balanced mode on eligible paid plans (such as Turbo), specific user-initiated requests may send bounded text passages, an anonymized web search query, or a user-selected screen region through Tyne's managed zero-retention cloud gateway, alongside account and licence checks. These data flows are described on our Features and Privacy pages.

3. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to use the Services. Some features and all paid plans need an account. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at support@tyne.in if you think your account has been compromised.

4. Licence to Use the App

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on Macs you own or control, for your personal use or internal business use, subject to these Terms and your plan.

You may not: copy, modify, or distribute the App; reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble it except where applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction; remove proprietary notices; circumvent licensing, plan limits, or billing; resell or sublicense the Services; or use the Services to build a competing product.

Tyne and its software, design, and branding belong to us and our licensors. These Terms do not give you any ownership rights in them.

5. macOS Permissions and Text Insertion

To work, the App asks macOS for Microphone access (required for dictation) and Accessibility access (to insert text into other apps). Screen & System Audio access is optional during onboarding and is only needed if you capture meeting system audio, enable opt-in local Screen Memory, or use Circle to Search. It may also ask for Calendar and Reminders access if you use those actions. You choose whether to grant these permissions and can withdraw them in System Settings at any time.

Tyne inserts text by placing it on the pasteboard and sending a paste command to the frontmost app. It is designed to refuse password fields and to copy text to the clipboard instead of pasting when modifier keys are held. You are still responsible for checking where text is inserted before you send, submit, or save it.

6. Your Content

You keep all rights to what you dictate and to the transcripts, notes, imported Atlas documents, exports, and other content you create with Tyne ("Your Content").

Raw audio is transcribed on your Mac and is never uploaded to us. When you use a cloud-assisted feature in Balanced mode (such as Ask Tyne, Ask Atlas, live web search, or Circle to Search on Turbo), you grant us a limited, worldwide licence to transmit and process only the bounded text excerpts, anonymized search query, or selected screen region that the request requires, solely to return your answer and enforce aggregate plan quotas. Our managed gateway does not store your prompts, document passages, or images, and we do not sell Your Content or use it to train AI models. See the Privacy page for details.

7. Your Vault, Backups, and Data Loss

Tyne stores your vault (vault.enc) and imported Atlas files (atlas/*.blob) encrypted on your Mac. The master encryption key is created on your Mac and kept in your macOS Keychain under in.tyne.desktop. We do not have a copy of your key or your vault and cannot recover either for you. If you lose your Mac, delete the Keychain item, or delete the vault files without exporting your data first, your data will be permanently lost.

You are responsible for backing up your Mac and your data. Backups and folder-sync tools you choose to use may copy your data to other places, and those copies are governed by those services, not by us.

8. Recording Other People

Laws in many places require consent before recording or transcribing a conversation. When you start a meeting capture in Tyne (whether Microphone only, Meeting audio only, or Both), you are solely responsible for informing all participants and obtaining any consent required by applicable law. Tyne captures meeting audio only when you explicitly start it and displays an active recording indicator throughout.

9. Transcripts, AI Output, and Actions

Speech recognition and AI cleanup can make mistakes: wrong words, missed words, changed meaning, or text inserted in the wrong place. Reminders and calendar events that Tyne creates from speech can be wrong too. Review Tyne's output before you rely on it, send it, or act on it.

Do not rely on Tyne for medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or emergency purposes. Output from AI features may be similar for different users.

10. Passwords and Sensitive Information

Tyne tries to detect and remove things that look like credentials, such as API keys and tokens, before text is stored or sent. This filtering is best-effort and cannot catch every secret, especially one that is misheard or spelled out. Do not dictate passwords, payment card numbers, or other secrets. You are responsible for any sensitive information you choose to dictate.

11. Plans, Billing, and Cancellation

Tyne offers a Free plan and paid self-serve plans, including Plus ($4.99/month or $49/year) and Turbo ($9.99/month or $95/year), as well as upcoming tiers such as Turbo Plus ($19.99/month or $190/year). Current features, quotas, and prices are listed on our Pricing page. We may change prices for future billing periods, and we will tell you before a change applies to your subscription.

Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record, which also handles applicable taxes. We never see your full card details. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.

You can cancel at any time through your Account Billing portal or by emailing support@tyne.in. When you cancel, your plan stops renewing and you keep paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for. Except where required by applicable consumer law or in the case of a verified billing error, payments are non-refundable. See our Refund Policy for full details.

12. Managed Cloud Gateway and Upstream Providers

When you use Balanced mode on Turbo, Tyne routes eligible cloud requests through our stateless gateway (llm-router and brave-cerebras-search) to upstream inference and search providers (currently Cerebras and Brave Search). Daily and monthly action and token limits apply as published on our Pricing page; once reached, requests automatically fall back to local on-device models on your Mac. You can disable cloud routing completely at any time by switching Tyne to Local Only mode.

13. Third-Party Software and Services

The Services rely on third parties, including Apple's macOS, open-source speech-recognition models and libraries, AI providers, hosting and authentication providers, and Dodo Payments. These are subject to their own terms and availability. We are not responsible for their outages, changes, or policies. Open-source components are licensed under their own licences, which take precedence for those components.

14. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Services to break the law; to record, monitor, or harass anyone; to infringe anyone's rights; to attempt to access systems or data without authorisation; to interfere with or overload our servers; or to get around usage limits or security measures.

15. Beta Features, Updates, and Availability

Tyne is under active development. Beta and preview features are provided "as is", may be unstable, and may change or be removed. We may release updates that add, change, or remove features. We aim to keep our online features available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service and may suspend them for maintenance or security reasons.

16. Termination

You may stop using Tyne and delete the App at any time. We may suspend or end your access to the Services, including your account and online features, if you breach these Terms, fail to pay, create a security risk, or where the law requires it. When your licence ends, you must stop using the App. Sections 6 to 10 and 17 to 22 survive termination.

17. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT TRANSCRIPTS OR AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, THAT TEXT WILL BE INSERTED WHERE YOU INTEND, OR THAT YOUR DATA WILL NOT BE LOST.

18. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL TYNE, ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES.

OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL FEES YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD 100).

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

19. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Tyne from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Services, Your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right, including recording or transcribing people without the consent required by law.

20. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will change the "Last Updated" date above, and for material changes we will give reasonable notice through the App, by email, or on this website. If you keep using the Services after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.

21. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. The courts located in Goa, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

22. Contact

If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us at support@tyne.in or info@tyne.in.
